Retail Rotterdam

A RETAIL PAVILION BY THE ROTTERDAM CENTRAL STATION

Not awaiting economic growth, the City of Rotterdam and Dutch Railways have the ambition to develop this crucial plot next to the new Rotterdam Central terminal. A temporary supermarket and shops will be built to activate this area.

The City of Rotterdam aimed for a building with a prominent "high" façade while the supermarket only requires a single story building. The city was also planning new streetlights in front of the plot to illuminate the adjacent bus terminal. We have integrated these demands by merging streetlights and glass façade. The height of the streetlights increases when approaching the entrance to the station.
