A TIMBER ARENA HIDDEN IN THE FOREST

A timber-construction tennis arena complex that contains the main arena for the capacity of 3120 spectators that is designed by following principles;

1. MORE VISIBLE, MORE HUMAN-SCALE
By making the main arena space half-sunken into the ground, the interior space of the arena is directly visible from outside. And together with that low-kept (3m) eave’s height of the building, the appearance of the building towards the surrounding forest is very gentle.

2. INVITING SUNLIGHT AND ACTIVITIES
A large patio space is situated in the center of the building. And the building volumes around the patio have different building heights. That invites sunlight as well as generating some special outside spaces such as roof terrace and patio.

3. UNDER ONE ROOF
Instead of spreading a number of buildings for diverse programs, all the programs are combined under one continuous roof and are connected with each other within one climate area. This is highly convenient, especially for the climate nature of Yekaterinburg with 7 months of winter per year.
